Sergo – from Lat. ‘sermo’ – conversation, ‘iungo’ – to connect. Essentially the iphone of the era.

‘aic’ – from Lat. ‘ad iungere conversationem’ – to join the conversation – to call someone

AIC Unit – a device used for chatting

Graphcrete – a universal building material that can easily be formed into all sorts of shapes and  cures quickly. Some fire-resistant properties as well.

‘popsicle’ – Teddys can direct a static discharge from antennae on top of their heads that short circuits the nervous system of their prey.

Automeal – similar to a microwave dinner.

Sparkle Drive – commonly called a blink drive. It’s essentially a device that folds space by creating two gravity wells via quantum entanglement that suck a ship through to the other side. Travel is near-instantaneous.

Det-pack – demolition package. A self contained backpack with explosive, timer and detonator. Usually military issue.

AutoSentinel – aka robot guard dog

Veloxavirus – a very fast acting adenovirus that hibernates inside a host until it can transfer to another host, then a day later it begins to grow.

IFF – Identify Friend/Foe. A transponder system used to separate the good guys from the bad.

Sugiyama Drive – designed by Drs. Tadao Sugiyama and Elenora O’Grady-Davies (aka Grady’s parents) It was the first FTL drive ever used by humanity.

Voight-Atlas – a medical test.

 

PLANETS

Albion – the center planet of the Empire. Allegedly humans came from there. The emperor and the main seat of government is there as well.

Angelcanis – their planet. It’s got two moons. The first is small and the second, father away is larger so they look a similar size. There are two main continents, and three smaller island ones. The one that they live on is relatively flat on the west coast, and much more mountainous on the east. The other continent has one large mountain range right down the center. Plate tectonics are stable, so earthquakes are rare.

Canis Ludis – Danny and Freddie Espy-Lecker’s home world. Ruled by a crazy queen.

Deneehaan – Colony planet, slightly newer than Angelcanis. The people there are hard working and fiercely independent, and have little trust for the Empire

Herdewyke – a green planet where the fleet’s rear staging base is.

Littus – Holiday planet. The only one in the Empire with freshwater oceans.

Magnarapax – planet of industry. It doesn’t rotate, so one side is always in the sun and the other is always in dark.

Pruinonis – nearby planet to Angelcanis in the next system over. Has a lot of forests and much of the water is in underground oceans. The Koku Cilveki are the local peoples that have spurned most tech in favor of a simpler lifestyle.

Sordibus Prime – backwater planet scheduled for major redevelopment to turn it into the industrial waste processing facility.  There are many native flora and fauna on the planet that would die off as a result of this development.

Viridi Silvanus – Where Danny’s “husband” has his protest.

Pectafortis – One of the Central Planets.

Magnus Dolus – Minister Crowley’s homeworld. Over commercialized.

 

PLACES

Exodus – A prison space station. Full of everything from hardened criminals to political prisoners and other white collar criminals.

Yeomanry – The 2^nd largest city on Angelcanis. Nice place.

Bradbury – The planet’s capital and largest city on Angelcanis.

Vaudvilla – the place where Danny Lecker met her alleged husband. (not the real Freddie Espy)

White Orchid – A beach in their town

Break Beach – Another beach in their town, known for being a good place for water sports.

Tongjian(通姦)Hotel – Where Rance’s father meets Cecelia Nilsson-Lim

Furatus Vault – where the contact list for the conspiracy is kept.

Cockalorum – a small city on Pecta Fortis.

Twyllodrus National Park – A large park in the middle of the main continent on Angelcanis. Great for hiking and camping and not much else.

Os – Second largest City on Canis Ludis

Emperor Richard the Equitable Institution for Criminal Justice and Reformation – self explanatory

Wylde Thyme – The diner to end all diners! Try their taro fries! (named after a real restaurant with a slightly different spelling. They don’t serve taro fries, but their seasonal fare is to die for.)

Vazhiny School – one of the top schools in the Empire to study dance.

Joris Regis the Fourteenth – the current Emperor

Jorin – the current standard of currency (it changes with each new Emperor) One Jorin is approximately worth 3 US dollars in 2021 value.

The Three Goddesses – Kwanon, Sophia and Durga representing Mercy, Wisdom and Strength. The religion that worships these three Goddesses is about one thousand years old, having come with the colony ships from the old worlds of the Empire.

Professor Jane Burnell – Expert in astrophysics and the time-space continuum. (named after Jocelyn Bell Burnell, actual astrophysicist who discovered repeating pulsars of radio waves)

Jinsee Shaloo (金色 杀戮) – arms manufacturer. The CEO is Cecelia Nilsson-Lim. A competitor to the Empire’s own military manufacturing arm. (think NASA vs SpaceX)

The Chosen Three – hugely popular music group from Albion. They tour all the Central Planets, and have one each major music award on all of them.

My Doctor, My Chef – wildly popular evening drama on Angelcanis. Rance likes to watch it with his mom.

Shinkoball – A game played with rackets and a carbon fiber ball on a 21x19ft court with a back wall on each side. kind of a mix between badminton, racketball and volleyball. The latest team to score gets the serve. The slow moving ball must be kept in the air, except for when it hits the back wall, in which case it is allowed to bounce once before returning over the net. Scoring is 15, 19 or 21 points to a round, best of 3,5, or 9 to a set, and best of 3 or 5 to a game, though a tournament can go up to best of 21 to 99 sets. Either team can score, but the serving team gets two points while the receiving team can only get one. To score, the other team must either not hit the ball over the net, hit the ball out of bounds or allow the ball to drop in their zone. A serve can either be sent into the other side’s area or hit against their back wall.

The Commonwealth – aka the Empire. A consortium of  24 central planets and several colony planets. Ruled by the Emperor and Parliament

Han Expedition – one of the main expeditions that came from earth many thousands of years ago.
